What is it?

openvoter is a content management system (CMS) that allows for people to set up their own social media/social news site like Digg or Reddit

It is built as a system that can be installed and set up easily while still allowing those with more computer knowledge the ability to play with its inner workings. Since the release of version 1.0 back in August of 2008, openvoter has had 2 major revisions adding new features while making the code base easier to work with and theme. I look forward to bring even more features and functionality in the future.

Why Build It?

So why build openvoter? openvoter was started as a side project for me in my spare time. I always enjoyed the way sites like Digg, Reddit and Mixx worked with the users generating the content and determining what was most prevalent on the site. So I took this enthusiasm mixed with my programming abilities to build a system where people could easily build their own social media/news sites.

Open Source License

I've always been a big fan of open source software so I felt it was only fair that I release openvoter as free (as in beer), open source software. It is licensed with the General Public License (GPL) version 3. A copy is included with the software, but you can also view it here.
